Virgin Mobile Australia and a Teenager

Virgin Mobile Australia sued by a USA based family for featuring their teenage daughter’s photograph apparently without permission over an advertising campaign. The family claims that this advertising agency took a copy of a photo which had been uploaded to the photo sharing website. The lawsuit names Virgin Mobile Australia, but oddly also includes Virgin Mobile USA - which is a completely unrelated company - and Creative Commons, which is a non-profit body which defined the copyright policies, but has no involvement in this case either. Virgin Mobile Australia said it was “unable to comment at this stage as we have not received or seen a copy of the lawsuit in question”.

This is why I don’t keep my photos public! There are too many people and companies who will try to pass them off as their own. There are so many screen capture programs on the web today that even disabling downloads of the photos are useless… That is why I store my photos with privacy controls on Pixamo. I control viewing rights for each photo and no one else can see them. The site requires users to create an account and log in every time, but that is how I keep my photos under control and stay aware of who sees them.
