A School Teacher Sherifa’s Life Story

Thirty years old Sherifa Abdel Salam lives in EI Saba Abar (a village near Ismailia) in north eastern Egypt with her husband and three daughters. She is working as a science teacher at a primary school in the village; earning 340 Egyptian pounds a week. She loves teaching her job but sometimes she shout, punish and even physically hurt the students because she has to deal with different and large number of students every day. Her school is only ten minutes walk from her home, after reaching home Sherifa cooks lunch for her husband who is working as a driver; She also helps her mother-in-law in the kitchen. Sherifa takes a half-hour break from school for shopping; she says “After the school day, I don’t have time for shopping, I head home directly, to do the rest of the housework.”
